Career

Builder.
Strategist.
Technologist.

Thirty years across storage, networking, virtualization, cloud, and AI. Every major shift, front row.

What I Bring

Core Strengths

AI Infrastructure
Practitioner-level depth in NVIDIA’s inference stack: TensorRT-LLM, vLLM, SGLang, Dynamo, disaggregated prefill/decode, KV cache architecture, parallelism strategies, and the economics of tokens-per-watt. Learned from first principles, validated in a homelab, then written about publicly.
Agentic Systems
Designed, built, and deployed multi-agent architectures on real infrastructure. Not slide decks and demos. Actual systems running on actual hardware, with real orchestration, real failure modes, and real lessons learned.
Platform Incubation
Co-founded NetApp’s Office of the CTO from scratch. Built the function, the team, the developer ecosystem, and the community motion that didn’t exist before I got there. Comfortable starting with a blank org chart and a mandate.
Technical Storytelling
Keynotes, live technical series, long-form blog content, a podcast, LinkedIn at scale. The ability to translate genuine technical depth into language that lands with both practitioners and executives, without dumbing either side down.
GTM & Alliances
Field strategy across Cisco, Red Hat, VMware, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Nutanix. ISV ecosystem partnerships, M&A evaluation, partner readiness programs, and the cross-functional alignment that makes GTM motions actually move.
Emerging Tech Adoption
Pattern recognition built across three major infrastructure transitions: virtualization, cloud, and AI. The instinct to go deep before going public. The experience to know which shifts are real and which ones are noise.
Community Building
Built technical communities from zero: 6K+ engineers across Discord, forums, and live events. Organic traction earned through consistent technical credibility, not marketing spend. The kind of audience that follows the person, not the logo.
Executive Communication
Comfortable at the board level and in the field on the same day. Regular presenter at Tech Field Day, AWS Storage Day, and global conferences. The ability to hold a room whether the audience is a CTO or a sysadmin.

The Record

Professional Experience

NetApp (2011-2026)
Global Field CTO, Technology Alliances (September 2025-May 2026)

The title said Technology Alliances. What I actually did was learn.

I stepped into a role spanning Cisco, Red Hat, VMware, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Nutanix at the exact moment AI infrastructure partnerships became the most consequential conversation in the industry. I used that position the way I’ve used every major transition in my career: I went deep before I said anything publicly.

The first half was AI inference. Not from briefings. From first principles. TensorRT-LLM, vLLM, SGLang, Dynamo, disaggregated prefill and decode, KV cache architecture, parallelism strategies, inference economics. I ran workloads in my homelab. I wrote a 13-page technical document for myself before I published a word publicly. Earned credibility, not borrowed.

The second half shifted to agentic systems. Designing, building, and operating multi-agent architectures on my own infrastructure. Understanding how these systems actually behave in production rather than in demos.

Global Field CTO, Cloud/ISV/GTM Strategy (2019-2025)

As part of the founding team for NetApp’s Office of the CTO, I carved out a unique role that blurred the lines between strategy, storytelling, and community building. I didn’t just represent our cloud vision. I helped shape it, evangelize it, and scale its impact.

  • Co-founded and scaled the Office of the CTO for Cloud, influencing long-term roadmap and technical vision.
  • Built NetApp’s first developer ecosystem, launching a community of 6K+ engineers across Discord, forums, and live events.
  • Launched NetApp ONAIR in January 2023, a live-format content series bridging engineering and executive audiences.
  • Drove ISV partnership strategy and collaborated on early-stage M&A evaluations to identify new growth vectors.
  • Regular presenter at Tech Field Day and AWS Storage Day.
Global Technical Lead, Cloud-First Partners (2018-2019)

A re-entry role after time away from NetApp. I stepped back in as NetApp was ramping its Cloud Data Services portfolio and focused on partner readiness, building the technical enablement, messaging, and field alignment that let channel partners go sell something new.

Technical Marketing Engineer, Virtualization Solutions (2011-2015)

This is where I built the public habit. I created NetApp’s original best practices for VMware integrations, delivered live training to field engineers and partners, and launched the NetApp Communities Podcast, which eventually became Tech ONTAP. I spoke at Oracle OpenWorld in 2010 on virtualizing Oracle for VMware, which is what got NetApp’s attention and led to the offer.

Cohesity (2015-2016)

Joined in stealth, reporting directly to the COO and CEO. My job was to help build the public narrative and GTM motion before we had a product anyone could see. That meant shaping external messaging, briefing analysts and influencers, supporting roadmap prioritization, and helping the executive team make the kinds of early decisions that look obvious in retrospect.

Cohesity is now a multi-billion dollar data protection company.

IPC Healthcare (2006-2011)

I led the datacenter modernization initiative that transformed a fragmented, multi-site infrastructure into a consolidated, virtualized environment that had to meet HIPAA and SOX requirements and hold up to IPO scrutiny. This is where I developed the hands-on depth with VMware, Cisco Nexus, Oracle, SQL Server, and Exchange that became the foundation of everything after.

  • Consolidated Active Directory across 27 remote sites into a unified enterprise infrastructure.
  • Migrated 1,000+ servers to VMware with 10GbE Cisco Nexus networking.
  • Virtualized Oracle, SQL Server, and Exchange in production. This was not common practice at the time.
  • Prepared HIPAA and SOX documentation for IPO readiness.
National Network Data Services (1998-2006)

The proving ground. NT4 to Windows 2000 migrations across Fortune 500 clients. Bank of America’s national intranet backbone. Federal programs under a Top Secret clearance. I didn’t just rack servers. I helped build the environments they lived in, often without a playbook.

  • Designed and deployed Active Directory infrastructure during NT4 to Windows 2000 migrations across multiple Fortune 500 clients.
  • Built Bank of America’s national intranet backbone, streamlining internal communications and document management systems.
  • Held Top Secret clearance (1998-2003), supporting secure federal programs requiring strict confidentiality and resilience.

Leadership Beyond the Resume

I don’t have a classic car in the garage. I have a homelab with racks full of enterprise switches, servers, and storage systems. I build my own software and systems, self-host them, and use them as the proving ground for what I write and speak about publicly.

I’m also a trained voiceover artist with a commercial demo, a blogger, a podcaster, and an active content creator. I’ve keynoted global conferences, hosted live technical series, and built communities from scratch. I do all of this because it makes me sharper, not because it’s in my job description.

While at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, I competed in the Newport to Bermuda Race, a 635-mile offshore sailing challenge. A few years later, I led a 40-person international World of Warcraft raid team across time zones. Both of those are examples of things that have shaped my leadership instincts long before I held any formal title.

What’s Next

What I’m Looking For

I’m looking for a room where the full range of what I do is seen as an asset, not a problem to manage. Builder. Strategist. Technologist. Executive communicator. Content creator. Community catalyst. These things reinforce each other. In my hands, they always have.

I’ve been at the leading edge of every major infrastructure shift for 30 years. Y2K. Virtualization. Cloud. GenAI. Agentic systems. I don’t watch these waves from the shore. I’m already in the water.

If that sounds like where you are, my DMs are open.
